Archaeological finds have occurred in recent centuries in various localities of the town, now partly preserved in the Museo Civico di Piacenza and the National Museum of Antiquities of Parma, are a testimony that this location has very remote origins.

Seems to have formed a free commune in the twelfth century when the rural municipalities and the citizens, derived from the ancient Roman municipality, asserted their autonomy.

Because of its strategic location, it was subject to many invasions and devastation.
Following the story of Pontenure speaks of Trivulzio, of Cigala, Fantoni.
From the sixteenth century onwards Pontenure followed the historical events of Piacenza, during the rule of the Farnese, which was succeeded by the rule of the Bourbons of Spain, the French, the Austrians with Marie Louise, Duchess of Parma and Piacenza became after the Congress of Vienna.

Pontenure n 1859 was annexed, along with Piacenza, to Piedmont and, two years later, became part of the Kingdom of Italy, just proclaimed and binds to it's own story.

In 1872 he came to the noble Pontenure Felice Sforza Fogliani of Vicobarone who bought the castle making you run multiple restructuring.
During the work was discovered a long tunnel that stretched up to the church, connecting the inside of the castle tower.
